Cadance and Rahiti
How they Met, and Fell in love
Written by Asen (#995264)
Asen: So how did you guys meet?
Rahiti gave a sharp exhale and looked down with a smile while Cadance giggled a bit.
Cadance: Well it all started on the beach. And may I just say, I’m not real fond of the beach- all that sand, it gets in my fur and takes weeks to get out! But on a perfect day, when soft blue green waves are crashing on the golden shore, it’s hard to resist a nice stroll. I rarely get in the water, because when my fur is wet it weighs like an anchor.
Rahiti: Oh but she did…
He laughed a bit and Cadance shoved him a bit.
Cadance: I’m telling this. So I had been walking along, minding my own business, when these little pups just threw sand at me! Admittedly, I may have strayed pretty close to their sand castle, but still! It was all over, and I could feel it itching already! So yes, I may have gotten in the water, but only to get all that gunk off me!
Rahiti: So when she says that her fur is like an anchor, it isn’t an exaggeration. She swam just a couple meters from the tide, to the point where the water was maybe shoulder high, and started struggling.
Cadance: It was hard to move, and the waves kept coming and swaying me around.
The two exchanged a glance before Cadance continued.
Cadance: In the midst of my struggling, I saw a soaked form with purples as dark as the night sky and golds as vibrant as the counterparting sun swimming confidently towards me.
Rahiti: And I had her put her paws around me and together we fought the pushing and pulling waves to return to shore.
Cadance: And I thanked my stunning hero.
Rahiti: And I asked if she needed CPR.
Cadance blushed a bit and giggled.
Cadance: And I said yes.
Chardraen: Oh, that’s so sweet! What is one of the highlights of your relationship?
Rahiti: Well I’m down at the beach a lot, but even after the magic of our first meeting, Cadance was a bit apprehensive.
Cadance: Reasonably so!
Rahiti: But there was this one other time I got her to come down with me. It was a rainy day, but the rain let up a bit around noon. I asked her to come out with me…
Cadance: …Insisting that the wet sand wouldn’t get in my fur.
Rahiti: Yes, maybe that didn’t turn out quite true. She came down tho, and we sat for a while on the beach. The sun was just peeking thru the clouds, so as the wind blew we were speckled with shadows.
Cadance: Then it started raining again. I went to leave, because personally, I’m not as fond of the water as my man.
Rahiti: I chased after her, running away from the beach. Just as she had escaped the last of the sand I got her to turn around.
Cadance smiled warmly while they came to the climax.
Cadance: I had turned to face him, and I was soaked to the bone at this point- so not a really happy beach goer. I started to give him a piece of my mind, demanding that we go home, when I saw on the horizon behind him a breathtaking double rainbow.
Rahiti: I didn’t know why she had gone quiet. I was actually a bit worried. It took me a moment to turn and look over my shoulder, and it was really amazing. Where we were standing was covered in shadow and rain still poured down, heavier than before. But off in the distance, where the sky met the waves, the sun made the waters light up like gold under two rainbow arches. It was picturesque, and we sat together- still getting drenched- and were awestruck.
Cadance: And then there were dolphins. Somewhere, we actually couldn’t see them, but we could hear them, chattering away.
Rahiti: She asked me if I thought they were talking about the rainbows too.
Cadance: He said he couldn’t imagine them talking about anything else. On that horizon, it seemed like the beauty of the world had come together.
Asen: That sounds amazing. What is your favorite thing about eachother?
Both chuckled softly, looking tentative to begin.
Cadance: Go on, big brave man. Speak up.
Rahiti: Well.
Both lay quiet for a moment, wondering what to say- and what they would have said.
Rahiti: Don’t kill me for this, please. But I love when you just dried off after a swim and your fur is all in the wrong directions.
Cadance: Why on Earth…?
Rahiti: Because it gives me an excuse to help you groom…. And you smell really good after a swim, with just a bit of a salty touch. I don’t know, it just makes me love you, when you’re all soft and cuddly, and I know you don’t like it but it’s so sweet to…
Cadance: You’re so sweet! I mean, I really don’t like being all puffed out, but I love it when you help me groom.
She softly giggled and licked his cheek, inspiring a bit of a blush from him.
Cadance: I really like it when we play hide and seek- I know it’s a bit of a pup game, but in my life, finding you was one of the best moments, and reliving that experience, even in a game, is something I’m glad we can do together. It’s also part of the reason I’m so happy about having pups, because this thing we have, with the swimming and the somehow perfect rainy days and the hide and seek, is something I want to share.
Chardraen: You’re getting a bit ahead of us! We were actually wondering, when did you two lovebirds decide you wanted pups?
Rahiti: A few months ago there was this really big storm. It lasted days, just pouring without a sight of sun or scent of spring’s arrival.
Cadance: I was pretty much trapped in doors for the extended period of the storm, because standing outside for even a moment would be like an hour of swimming.
Rahiti: So when the rain did let up, it took her about twenty seconds to grab a scarf and get out the door. I had braved the torrential storm a few times, but when it faded off I was hot on her tail.
Cadance sighed emphatically as she entered into the next part.
Cadance: About five steps out of the door, I managed to land myself smack dab in the middle of a puddle. The mud was up to my stomach, and my paws were stuck in the dense brown goo. It was disgusting, and I was quite stuck.
Rahiti: Coming out, I didn’t quite spot her. She called over to me, pleading aid to get her out.
Cadance: My heroic knight had me wrap my scarf around my body and grabbed the other end. With a titanic tug, he helped me get out of the oozing mud and back on to moderately firm land.
Rahiti: She was covered in mud, running from her toes to her stomach and some on her muzzle, too.
Cadance: He suggested going down to the ocean, a short enough walk, and in spite of my feeling towards it I was eager to do anything to get the mud off.
Rahiti: The whole way down to the tide she was dripping mud in her wake, and that may have been the only time I ever saw her run to the ocean.
Cadance: I must have been in the water for a good half hour, but the mud still clung along my legs and stomach- a lighter layer, but still not clean.
Rahiti: I had her come out and back home with me.
Cadance: We sat by the fire for hours, with him methodically grooming the thick knots of mud from my fur.
Rahiti: It was horrible, really, but I couldn’t stand to see her like that.
Cadance: He was so good and kind in grooming me. I felt like a little puppy that had gone to roll around in the dirt and come back to a loving father, and I told him. I said that I thought he’d be a wonderful father…
Rahiti: … And I had been thinking about it. Having pups, that is. When she said that, I vocalized my desire with a worried smile.
Cadance: And I smiled back.
Rahiti: And the rest is history.
Rahiti gave a sharp exhale and looked down with a smile while Cadance giggled a bit.
